“Ceramic toys like teddy bears, ducks, and other fancy items… My stall is a hub for these things! The children instantly stop crying when they come along with their parents. I came to Vijayawada from Srikakulam to make a living. I started off doing cement work but within a few years, I took up selling toys. Though I have only one pushcart, business is good and I don’t think I will ever change it to a shop. I struggle quite a bit sometimes but hard work definitely has its rewards. By the end of the day, I make enough to put food on my table.
My day starts at 7 in the morning up until late at night, but off late I’ve had to shut early because of the pandemic. Despite my toys being affordable, some people still bargain but there’s not much I can do about it.
In my free time, I like spending time with my family. I have been here for more than 25 years now and have seen the city develop tremendously. There are so many other street vendors here selling other toys, clothes, sodas, and fruits. I treat them all with respect. We help each other out when any of us are in trouble- we’re like a family!”
