“My husband used to say that life would always throw challenges at us and what matters is how we face them. I recently had faced a crisis, whose name is COVID-19. However, I have completely recovered and now, I am sitting in front of you as a healthy person at the age of 94.
Not long ago, I came here to Puttaparthi to my older son’s residence to stay with the family from my village Garladinna in Anantapur. I am quite attached to my grandson Ravi and his wife. They usually spend most of their free time with me. My grandson’s wife works as a staff nurse at Swami Super Speciality Hospital at Puttaparthi.
Everything was normal until one day she showed few Covid symptoms such as loss of smell and taste. Unfortunately, she tested positive for Covid-19 on the 8th of August. Immediately, our entire family gave the samples. After the results were out, my grandson and I tested positive for Covid-19 on the 10th of August.
I had no major complications apart from a common cold after I tested positive with no co-morbidities in my medical report. The same was for my grandson. So we weren’t admitted in the isolation ward of the hospital; instead, we chose to stay at home itself. Our mantra to tackle the disease was not to panic and follow the home quarantine positive patient guidelines suggested by the doctors. After we decided to treat ourselves at home, my grandson shifted his 4-year-old daughter along with my son and daughter-in-law who had tested negative to the top floor and we stayed back on the ground floor as ours was a double storehouse.
After shifting, three of us started maintaining physical distancing by following all the ICMR guidelines. Besides proper medication and nutritious food, we also practiced the Ayurvedic home remedies by gargling hot water along with steam inhalation to relieve the congestion. It wasn’t easy sitting in a closed atmosphere for so long but I always stayed positive mentally. Even my family members gave me that emotional support and I was able to pass through those days. After 14 days of home isolation, we gave the samples again on the 22nd of August and by God’s grace, we were all tested negative.
Every person would go through a certain fear at this stage and Covid is definitely not an invincible disease. We can overcome it if we stand together with unified strength and most importantly with a positive mindset!”
