“I grew up at my grandparents’ village called Maidavolu in Guntur district. I would wake up to the chirping of birds every morning and there was greenery everywhere. My grandfather used to practice rainwater harvesting. That’s the kind of world I grew up in.
Later, after my intermediate, when I had to move to the city for my engineering, I was suddenly surrounded by concrete buildings. I could hardly find trees and birds. The summers here were longer and I could notice birds and stray animals lack the basic resources.
Even though I was slowly getting used to the city life, it bothered me a lot every day. Hence I started volunteering in movements that educated youngsters to bring a change for the environment.
As the summer season is around the corner, my friends and I are coming up with a voluntary project to ensure water for birds and stray animals. We named the project SABA (Student Army for Birds & Animals) and we are currently working to collaborate with local NGOs to install earthen pots filled with water, across government schools in the city. With our project, we hope to bring a positive change among people and contribute to the environment. Like humans, animals and birds also have the right to live. I know things won’t change overnight but I am confident that our project will help inculcate kindness in students towards fellow beings!”
