“As I woke up this morning, I read the news that the toll of confirmed cases of novel corona virus in Andhra Pradesh has increased to 3. First and foremost, it’s really important to understand that there’s still a lot we need to know about COVID-19. Even after repeated announcements by health care officials and the government, we, as citizens of this country are not taking the situation seriously. I could see many people maintaining no discipline when coughing or sneezing to contain spread at my own workplace. I could see many people on roads without any precautions despite the government giving repeated instructions to public. Call it quarantine or self isolation, if following such guidelines is difficult, we must still ensure that our physical contact with others is limited.
The way the novel corona virus has spread in no time from a town in China to almost the entire world only goes to show that we have not maintained the basic discipline to contain the spread of such viruses. So let’s accept it. Even though the government has shut most public places such as schools, malls, cinema halls and restaurants, there’s still a possibility of people catching the virus because we cannot stop essential services such as public transport, food and healthcare. So it’s our responsibility to ensure we stay safe and also keep people around us safe. We must also ensure we provide the right awareness to people who are living in the rural areas and daily wage labourers who might not be aware of the announcements and instructions given by healthcare officials. It’s high time now so let’s all act responsibly and work together to contain the spread of this deadly virus!”
