“Growing up, I had dreams of being a solo-traveller. I always wanted to spend my life exploring different places and meeting new people. But all my dreams were shattered when I was in class 6. We went through severe financial crisis and I had to discontinue my education. When I had to choose a career, reality won and I started working in my father’s paan stall here at the Vijayawada Bus stand.
But with time, I came to realize that because I couldn’t physically travel to different places, didn’t mean I had to stop learning about them. So I started reading a lot of travel magazines and also interact with out station workers and tourists who come here everyday. I would always greet them with a warm smile and ask them about their origin. I would ask them about the people in their village, their customs, languages, and festivals they celebrate.
Most of my customers would respond positively and some would even exchange numbers and chat for hours. Today, I have friends from all parts of the country and it certainly feels like reliving my childhood dream again!
