“I was born and raised in Guntur. My father runs a small food business but he went through a lot of ups and downs in life. There was a time where we had to sell our house to pay the debts. I couldn’t wait to help my family, so I studied hard all throughout my school and college days. In my graduation, my aim was to get a merit scholarship so that I could pursue my Masters in a good University but just a few months before my final exams, my father started having health issues so I had to take his place at his work. I did manage to give my exams, although it was difficult. I would go to college during the day time and would take care of the hotel in the evenings. There are days where I couldn’t even sleep for 4 hours as I have to manage everything on my own. My parents felt guilty, but we knew that was our only source of income. I didn’t get any time for the preparation but I still managed to score 73 %. Later, when I decided to pursue my Masters, my parents didn’t want my academic career to suffer again, so they rented my stall to someone else. They’re both extremely supportive and sometimes I would think how well they would have done in life if they were educated. I have always felt that it’s my responsibility to live up to their expectations as they were always with me even during the toughest of times. So I decided to join a local NGO that works for the welfare of children and teach the slum kids, free of cost. Everyday I see so many people who are capable enough to study but they have to work somewhere as an unskilled labor. Today, I got a seat in good University and I balance my days schedule accordingly. I want to put all my learning into action and make a difference in the lives of people who have faced similar situations like me.”
