“I grew up in a small village in Vijayawada. When I was 8 years old, I would walk around in the rains and rescue street dogs. I have always been motivated to protect animals. In fact, the reason I started doing part time jobs at a young age was to take care of my many pets. I didn’t receive support from my family members. I always wanted to become a Chartered Accountant, but we moved around so much that I couldn’t get admission into the Commerce stream and had no choice but to take up Visual Communication. I’d already started earning by freelancing but I realized that I could do so much more. One day, I called up an animal rescue center and joined them as a volunteer. Today, 2 years later, I am a permanent employee here. Animals have taught me a lot. Every time I see the wagging tail of a severely injured dog, it surprises me. We have a dog who couldn’t walk when she came here, we helped her and now she’s such a brat – she waits for the buffaloes to fall asleep and then sleeps on top of them. She treats them like mattresses!
I know a lot of people who wake up in the morning and feel no motivation to work. But I have no problem at all. I go to college in the morning and volunteer here all evening and during weekends. Initially my parents were worried about my career choices, but today they are very proud of how far I have come. I will never regret following my gut, even if it did not sound beneficial to me then. I am that person whose retirement plan was to have a big house with lots of animals, but luckily for me, I didn’t have to wait that long!”
