“The rain has been a bit of a dampener this month, otherwise business booms during the festive season. I’ve been selling fruits for almost 10 years now.
Prior to this, I worked as a daily wager in a gold shop for almost 20 years. As I grew older, I found my strength waning, so I could not continue working in that field.
Usually, I have to re-stock every three or four days. But as I said, the rain has played havoc on sales this month. I have to sell off the remaining stock which amounts to Rs. 25,000 worth, in the next few days. If not, the fruits will go rotten.
I work from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day without taking any holidays. I live near Rokallapalam bus-stand, so it’s easy for me to travel here.
I truly believe if we work with passion, we can achieve anything. I have a wife and three daughters to support at home, but I don’t want them to follow in my footsteps. I want them to study well and get steady jobs. I’m only taking all this trouble so they can have a better life!”
