“I belong to a small town called Satyanarayanapuram in Vijayawada, where I live with my mother and brother. My father passed away in a major road accident when I was in the second grade, and ever since then, my mother has taken all the family responsibilities on her shoulders. She works as a waitress at the hotel Minerva Grand in Labbipet.
All of us used to share a very close bond with our father. When he passed away, we struggled very much to endure the pain. My brother still cries at times thinking about him, and I often try to calm him down.
When the lockdown was announced, Amma’s salary suffered a pay cut. Due to the financial problems at home, I have been selling toys on the road, under my cousin brother’s ownership.
I am currently pursuing my first year of intermediate, while my brother is in the eighth grade. As of now, I have a part-time job to support my family. I want to continue my studies so that I become independent enough to support my family and myself. We now manage to save some money after meeting our expenses every month.
Now that both Amma and I earn, we are planning to set up a small scale business on our own, and I’m hoping that we succeed in that endeavour.”
