“I have been earning since the age of sixteen when my mother asked me to work with a family as a caretaker who wanted someone to keep an eye on their baby. Looking back, I cannot blame my parents for that. We were 4 siblings and my father, a daily wage laborer, was not able to provide for all of us.
By the time I was 19, I got married to a person whom I loved from my hometown and that was the best decision ever. I must say our marriage certainly give us the financial security which we had yearned for. My husband, Srinivas, is extremely supportive and he never said no to my choices to date.
Even though we don’t own a big house or have stable jobs, we always support each other and respect each other’s choices. He works as a security guard in an apartment and I, as domestic help. We also have a small laundry stall which we both handle during our free time.
A lot of my friends and neighbors ask me how I am able to manage both home and work. I tell them it’s the understanding between a wife and a husband that sets the life on track. We support each other even during difficult times. There were times when my husband got addicted to alcohol and stopped working completely. But I never lost trust and confidence in him because he’s my soulmate. I had asked him to take a break from work and spend some time in the village which he agreed for and now he’s recovered completely and came back with a clean mindset.
Yes, life is hard at times to handle but there is no point wallowing in the past. One has to move on and live life in harmony!”
