“Strings of mallepuvvulu, garlands of kanakambaram and sunny yellow chamanthi, a bunch of roses and small piles of tulsi leaves make my tiny makeshift stall a colourful space. In fact, my life revolves around these fragrant flowers and leaves.
I have been a flower vendor for more than 20 years now. After my Intermediate, I started working in a factory at Kothagudem. After working there for 8 years, I decided to return to my hometown Vijayawada to take care of my family.
My day begins at 7 am and ends at 7 pm. I earn enough for my family consisting of wife and two young school-going daughters. My wife helps me in stringing the kanakambaram and mallepuvvulu into strands that customers buy for their poojas.
Somedays I earn more than I can expect and on other days, hardly any. I don’t let it bother me though. And now because of the ongoing pandemic, the business is less so I am doing a part-time job in a printing press to cover up the losses. I may be doing these small jobs, but I will make sure my daughters get a taste of success.
Yes, things have been extremely difficult for the last 6 months but I always believe there are better days to come. That’s my motto in life. Because if I sit down to count every bad experience or a situation in life, I will never be satisfied. That’s what the life is all about right?
My daughters are the heart and soul of our family and I will strive to work hard until I see them well settled. That’s a promise!”
