“The year was 2015 and I was all set for my four-day solo trip to Hampi. I badly needed a break from work and I thought going solo was the best thing to do to rejuvenate myself from the stress I was going through at that time. Those were the days where digital wallets weren’t as popular as they are now and I always used the debit card for the cash transactions and withdrawals. I got into the cab hurriedly from home as there’s only 45 minutes left for the train departure. After reaching the railway station, when I tried to pay the cab driver, I realised I left my debit card at home. I actually thought to withdraw the cash at the railway station for my travel expenses for the next few days. I do have some cash to pay the cab driver but I didn’t have enough time to go back home and get the debit card. The train was going to depart in another 15 minutes and I was still outside the station. It was a panic situation and I had no option left but to cancel my trip and return home. My heart was pounding and I started to sweat. The cab driver understood my feelings and asked me, “Is everything alright sir? Do you need any help?” I explained my situation to him and without a second thought, he told me that he will be able to give me hard cash if I would repay him later. I thought he was joking for a moment but he meant it. He asked me how much I would need and I told him I might need 5000 Rupees. The next minute, he got down from the car, went inside the ATM, withdrew the amount and handed the cash to me. I was stunned with his generosity. He took my contact number and address details and asked me to pay it back once I return from the trip. I assured him the same, took his contact details and boarded the train on time. Later, I called up my father, explained everything and gave him the contact details of the cab driver. My dad returned the amount to the driver that evening itself. I had a wonderful holiday and I came back home with so much positivity. Through that experience, I had learnt the true meaning of humanity. In the world of negativity that we live in, such kind of positivity and kindness is always needed!”
