“I met him for the first time in the year 2003, in a playground. He was seven years older to me, full of life. The best part was, that we were neighbours. We connected and eventually started exchanging letters when I was in college. The real twist in the story was when my father found those letters. My family was against our relationship and things started to go downhill at home, real soon. The concept of a love marriage was still controversial in our family and I had almost decided to give up. But life had other plans for us. Despite all of this, his family didn’t put any restrictions. So, communication with him continued even though my family was against it. He was already working by the time I completed my graduation and he always supported me to study further. Things started to go south one more time, when my parents started finding matches for me. It was then that we decided to take the next step; the biggest step of our life, marriage. I had to either give up on him or convince my family at any given cost. With a strong conviction, we went for the second option. One day, he came to my home and spoke to my father about our marriage. Initially, my family was against it. But after 7 months of convincing, they finally agreed. They weren’t happy about it but they said that it’s up to us now to make a sure shot decision. We got hitched in 2014! The ceremony took place at his house. Our marriage was a simple traditional home wedding with only a few members of the family from both sides. It was only after 3 years, when our son was born, that things finally changed between me and my family. The distance between us vanished and we were all happy. I have Ravi and my family by my side. It’s what I always wanted – for me to be able to love, and have a bit of forever with him in this life. I’ve never known anyone to be as kind and loving as him. He made my house a home and gave me the best family.”
