“My father always believed in giving me an all-round education which didn’t just include learning only from the books. Which is why I had developed a wide range of interests, from pencil sketching to organic farming. He always taught me things practically in life and I think I have learnt more from him, than from my school.
After my graduation, I joined my father in his business and got busy with work. I had no time for my hobbies and eventually forgot about them. My father, till date is enthusiastic and has many interests – I always wondered how he found the time for everything.
Even at this age, he encourages me to try new things and keep learning. I still remember his words – ‘if you want to do something, just do it.’ I wholly agree with him. I loved my work, but I didn’t want my life to completely revolve around it. I wanted to grow in life but also create an outlet for my childhood creativity.
This Quarantine period has certainly helped me with the answers to my long awaited childhood aspirations. I accidentally started to draw one day in the evening out of boredom. I felt happy and relieved after that. Ever since, everyday after work, I sketch portraits of cricketers.
I enjoy it and want to improve my art further. It feels like a new window of opportunity – it’s been more than a month and I still work. But in my free time, I pursue my other interests. These small things act as a stress buster for me and I’ve become a happier person ever since I started giving myself some ‘me time.’
