“I always wanted to have a pet. I literally begged my parents to get me a dog but they said that maintaining a dog is not an easy job and they didn’t believe that I was capable enough to take care of one. When I moved to Vijayawada for my graduation, I stayed separately as a paying guest and there was a dog in the owner’s house who I was really attached to. He taught me what unconditional love meant and also how special every dog is when it comes to being empathetic and compassionate towards other beings.
After my graduation, I came back to my hometown and started volunteering for a local animal welfare organisation in Kadapa. Since then, along with the group of volunteers, I used to take care of all the stray dogs in the village.
Every summer, we would distribute water bowls in the colonies to ensure these stray animals got safe drinking water. But this year, because of the nation wide lockdown, we are unable to do our summer campaigns and it’s difficult for us to get the permissions from the officials too. Even though we got the animal feeder passes, we are unable to reach out to most of the animals because of the lockdown norms. So far, we have distributed around 4000 food bags across the various villages in Kadapa.
We are now running out of funds, so I am trying to connect with local traders for social cause to ensure we have enough stocks till the lockdown lasts.
My only request to the people is to feed the strays in their colonies. We all should remember that they are part of our existence. We wouldn’t abandon our family members in a crisis situation, so why abandon our fellow creatures?”
