“I am a port cop. I grew up in Draksharamam village, which is famous for the holy temple Bhimaramam. I lived there till 1973 and later moved to Rajahmundry. I studied until my sixth standard in Rajahmundry and again moved to Mandapeta for higher education. I studied till Intermediate. Then when Mr. Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao came into power in 1983, I got through the police selections. I was only 19 then. I got qualified in running and jumping. They had sent me to Vijayanagaram for training. I got posted in Tuni at first, where I started my career as a constable. I went to the electricity board on deputation to Vijayawada. Then I went to Anaparthi. Later I worked in ACB. In 2012, I got promoted and worked in the Railways on deputation and after working for three years I got promoted as Assistant Sub-inspector. Then I got post in Marine at Kakinada and am still working here. It is after the terrorist attack in Mumbai, the Marine force came into existence in every district. Our duty is to stop human trafficking and illegal activities in the oceans. We go around patrolling the sea on speed boats. In fisheries, they are giving biometric cards now. We will verify those cards with the systems we have. After we run a check, Coastal guards do the second round of checking and then comes the Navy. If anyone crosses our border, stringent actions will be taken. Police job itself is very risky. We live far from our families. Both my children are settled in their lives. I have achieved everything I had dreamt off. I feel content and grateful. My family has always been supportive of my dreams”.
