“The festive season that begins with Navaratri goes on till Sankranti with Deepavali falling in between. As Deepavali is celebrated to mark the triumph of good over evil, we symbolically light diyas to dispel the darkness from our lives. Once, when silver was affordable, my father would give silver glasses during Deepavali every year and now, we celebrate it by giving bonuses, clothes and sweets to our workers who work overtime to complete all the Deepavali orders in time.
There’s a general perception that making clothes to order may be a declining trend with readymade clothes gaining popularity, but stitching festive clothes is a never-ending trend. Most of our orders come during Navaratri, and Diwali so we celebrate the festival by doing work.
I’ve been in the business for 20 years now, and I’ve realized that the festivities have only become bigger. People come from all over town to our shop and to our surprise, they share the prasadam with us while taking the finished garments. I certainly believe festivals are about uniting people and celebrating together as a family. Happy Diwali everyone!”
