“I have been in Vijayawada for 28 years. My native place is in Guntur district and I came here to earn a living. Initially, I worked for few years as a welder in a small company. It was hard work. As I grew older, I had suffered from severe backpain and found my strength waning, so I could no longer continue working as a welder.
Later, with the help of a friend, I started this business of selling plastic chairs and tubs here in Vijayawada three years ago. I work from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. all the seven days with out taking any holidays. I earn about Rs. 500 – 600 a day. These days, because of Covid-19 scare, there are very few takers of my products so I am trying to sell the remaining stock with the discounted prices.
I like being my own boss as it is certainly more relaxing than being a welder working under extreme conditions but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has made things extremely difficult for small businesses like mine.
Yes, things have changed over the last few months but I am only concerned in earning a living at the moment. Come what may, I want my daughter to finish her education and lead a better life. I will continue to work hard until that day comes!”
