“I had to drop out of school when I was in Class 5 because of the financial situation at home. At the age of 18, I began driving a rental cab to support my family. Unfortunately, every month, a large chunk of my earnings would go to the owner of the car, leaving me with a meagre amount. That’s when I decided to purchase my own vehicle. I hadn’t made enough money yet, but I was determined, and managed to arrange enough to buy a car on an EMI.
I wanted a good, decent living standard for my family, but that definitely involves some sacrifices, like having to drive everyday, irrespective of the conditions or your mood. One day away from work causes my income to crash, and creates issues for my family, something I never want them to go through. I don’t really enjoy the luxury of a paid leave anyway.
I love this city very much, but the only thing that upsets me here is the traffic. Earlier, I would get upset when people would curse or gesture to me on the road, but now I’ve learnt to ignore it. I spend most of my time on the road, so I’ve learnt to live with it. Thankfully, I enjoy what I do, so it doesn’t feel like a stressful job at all. I gladly work day and night. I just hope my car feels the same way. After all, we have a long way to go together!”
