“I have always believed that education is the key to empowerment, self-growth, and sustainment. But when it comes to the representation of women in the society in various walks of life, be it administration, politics, corporate sector, or any other category, across the country is not commensurate with their population.
When the population of women is 50 %, there should be 50% of representation in every field. But unfortunately, that’s not happening in the current scenario.
So to create awareness and to provide the confidence among the girls at a young age, we have chosen this day, on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, which is on 11th October, for launching the programme of ‘Balike Bhavishyattu’.
We have decided to give an opportunity to one girl each as head of all government offices in the district on from 11 a.m. on October 11.
I have even asked all the district officers up to Mandal level in Anantapur to identify the school going girls in the age group of 11-16 in their areas and allow her to take charge of the office. The process of selection will be done using the draw of lots procedure where we allow each girl to take charge of the office at various levels within the district.
One girl will be chosen to take the charge as District Collector of Anantapur for a day at 11 a.m. and all her decisions will be implemented with officials making arrangements for an inspection or visit to any place on ‘official’ based on the advice of the officials.
We are not confining this programme only on this particular day but instead, we had decided to have a long-term association with the students where the heads of offices across the district level will be acting as a mentor to the chosen girls until they settle in their lives.
The whole purpose of this programme is to provide a secure future for girls, bring them to a level where they make decisions for the good of society, and bring awareness among people in society.
So, it is our responsibility to empower the next generation to sustain for a longer-term than to resolve the present deficient livelihood. Education is a must for every child!”
