“These are all the plants that I grow in my nursery. There is good demand for plants even though it is the peak of monsoon. Roses are popular now as it is ideal for our climate. We get roses and vividly colored plants from other states. Nowadays I supply vegetable saplings as well – tomato, green chili, brinjal, etc.
I have been in this field for 15 years now. After my schooling, I started working in a huge nursery at Ongole. After working there for more than five years, I left for Karnataka where I worked as a construction worker. But I decided to return to Vijayawada to make sure that my two sons are studying well. I felt it would be good for them to have both of their parents around during their growing years.
So I returned to my hometown. Since then, I have been my own master in life by running this business. I am 48 years old now.
Today, both my sons are doing their Engineering. I am glad I returned to Vijayawada. This profession is very satisfying. But you have to know of every minute detail in plants and its survival conditions.
You have to constantly monitor the behavior patterns of the plants, re-pot, manure, water, and look after them like children. The rainy season is usually the best time for plant growth, shifting of plant, and repotting.
It is true that plastic pots are not as good as clay ones but many of my customers living in the Apartments prefer plastic to concrete and clay as it is easier to maintain and lighter too.
It is a lot of hard work but I thoroughly enjoy what I do! That’s what motivates me to move forward in life every day.”
