“Born and brought up in a village called Nimmakuru in Krishna district, I was raised in a conservative atmosphere. For most of my childhood, I would say I was an extrovert and always wanted to try something different. My father was a soldier at Border Security force and I grew up around people who only cared about the numbers in my report card- not passion. My relatives always told me, “You are an army kid. You should be mindful about your career choices – either prepare for NDA exams or get into the Government sector after your graduation.” Thankfully, my father never pressurized me to do anything I didn’t like. He gave me complete freedom to choose what I wanted and here I am today, working at a reputed Television production house as a script writer.
My decision to pursue a career in the entertainment industry wasn’t easy. While my peers were opting for Engineering or Medicine after high school, I wasn’t sure about my career even though I was passionate about filmmaking. I took sometime to analyse my calling and that’s when I discovered that there is a course which allows students to pursue filmmaking and writing. Wasting no time, I convinced my parents and got enrolled into the Mass Communication course. While studying in college, I wanted to make short films and focus on script writing in telugu language. But my peers often pulled my leg about me speaking in telugu. There were occasions where they laughed at me for giving a presentation in telugu language. But that didn’t deter me from mastering the art of writing. I was determined to pursue a career in media and I continued to write scripts and speeches in Telugu for the fests in the college. Slowly, people started appreciating my work and there has been no looking since. Apart from writing, I was also interested in Photography and took up many freelance projects while pursuing my degree. I still remember, my first project was a house-warming ceremony and I earned Rs. 4000 at the age of 18. I can never forget that moment! After completing my course, I waited for the right opportunity as I continued doing freelance photography.
But one job notification on our college whatsapp group from a reputed entertainment channel changed my life completely. I applied for it casually and they asked me to attend the interview immediately. I didn’t even have time to go home and change my clothes. I still remember, I went for the interview wearing a tee shirt, a track pant and flip flops. The Interviewer looked at me from top to bottom but didn’t say anything. He tested my script writing skills in telugu language and told me I was in! I could join the team immediately. That’s how I got my first job. I was overjoyed. I finally managed to transform from a 19-year-old, clueless student to a writer and photographer in his own right. I now see the world through my vision and everything seems to be in perfect focus, finally!”
