“I was always a restless kid. I would get bored easily and constantly needed new things to keep me occupied. I didn’t want to just learn from text books, I was more interested in knowing how things worked in the real world. But this attitude didn’t fit well into our traditional education system.
I had to change multiple schools because the teachers kept complaining about me. But I have made lots of friends and got to try a variety of new things – I represented my school in district level competitions and even played volleyball. I was good at art too but nothing could hold my attention for long enough.
My teachers thought I was intelligent, but kept using my brain for all the wrong things. Once, I even got suspended for creating a crazy dance concept in school. My parents wanted me to become an Engineer and that was the plan until class 12 when I suddenly realized I had no interest in that field. My personality wasn’t even stable enough for it.
I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur and turn all the bizarre ideas in my head into reality. I immediately wanted to drop out of college to start my own business but when I told my parents about it, they freaked out. They’re both well educated and they couldn’t bear the thought of their son not completing his education, so just to console them I decided to do my Bachelors in Business Administration. Now I’m in my second year of college but my brain is still the same – restless to try new things. Last year I just couldn’t wait any more so I started my own online company which makes and delivers customised gifts to all age groups for their birthdays and anniversaries. My products are already selling well now so I am happy with the results. I still have two semesters of college left but I’m already coming up with ideas for all the things I want to work on after graduation.
A lot of my friends and relatives keep telling me that only a job will give me financial stability and success, but I don’t want to follow the herd just for society to accept me. I believe that thinking out of the box is quintessential, so I’m trying to ignore all the negative comments, trust my instincts and be my own boss!”
