“I belong to a small agricultural family from a village called Kavuluru in Krishna District. Our house was too small to accommodate the entire family, but for me, it was my whole world. I loved the atmosphere of my village. I would wake up early, walk for 4 kilometers and work until evening in the farms, everyday. Despite the stress it entailed, I used to enjoy farming.

I moved to Vijayawada during my teenage years for better work opportunities. I did all kinds of jobs for the next 30 years. But nothing felt as good as farming. So, I left everything in 2007, because I had gotten bored. Even though I was offered a good salary, I didn’t want to run behind money anymore. I wanted to put my mental health first and feel satisfied about my day’s work and its outcome. Soon I moved back to my village and started working at my neighbor’s farm land as a partner. Now I have the opportunity to work at flexible hours and also get to spend time with my family and friends in the evenings. I am finally living life on my own terms. I am learning to do more of what makes me happy. Through out my life, I have seen many changes occur around me and I always suggest one thing to the youngsters – to take care of mother nature. As a human being, it’s not our choice, but our responsibility to realize the importance of preserving natural resources. Young generations should concentrate on studying, dream big and simultaneously plan how they can preserve age-old cultures and traditions.”
