“In my younger days, when I lived in a small village, I was very irresponsible. I was always chasing the next available thrill. I stopped going to school and spent most of my days with friends. But my dreamland fell apart and reality hit me when my parents told me that they couldn’t afford to take care of me anymore. They saved up a small sum of money to send me to Vijayawada and I have been here since then.
That day, I had no option but to grow up and start working and I haven’t stopped till today. I learnt to drive the bus around 25 years ago and I saw my first accident when I was training on a main road. A lorry had rammed into a car coming from the wrong direction. It was a horrific accident and I couldn’t eat anything for one whole day. I was scared and I wasn’t sure if driving a bus was the right job for me.
But then, a relative of mine calmed me down – he said that every job comes with a different set of problems and I shouldn’t let my fears control me. So I put on a brave face and got the job. Even today after all these years, I feel emotional when I see accidents, but I know that only thing I can do is drive responsibly and help when the need arises. I will probably stop fearing the road when everyone starts to value life.”
