“Dussehra is one of the biggest festivals here in Andhra. Today is Vijayadasami and it signifies the triumph of good over evil. We celebrate this festival marking the triumph of Rama, an avatar of Vishnu, over the 10-headed demon king Ravana, who abducted Rama’s wife, Sitadevi. Growing up, we weren’t very well off so we used to celebrate at home with friends and family. I remember, I used to wait for Dussehra so that I could meet my cousins and relatives at one place. We would wake up early in the morning and participate in various rituals during the festival. I moved to Warangal after my marriage and I am very fortunate to celebrate both Bathukamma and Vijayadasami. I infact had a blast for the past 9 days celebrating Bathukamma at home and now I am here to celebrate Dussehra festival at my parents place.”
