”My name is Tatarav and I am a fisherman. I have been in this profession for the last 10 years. I studied only till 7th standard because I thought education is not going to fetch me a job and thus stepped into this profession. Now, I am able to take care of my wife and children with the money I earn. One more reason for me to discontinue my education was my father’s death, which eventually led to a knee-deep financial crisis. Kakinada is my native place and I love Kakinada.
We make around Rs.8,000 for a trip into the sea. We do three trips a month. My daughter is studying in class 10 and my son is studying in the intermediate second year. My sister also stays with us, so I have to take care of 5 people.
Sometimes our boats stop mid-way and I have personally faced these situations.
Thanks to Chandranna Bhima, we received Rs.2.5 lakhs. Whenever we get some money, we celebrate by having liquor.
I am quite worried about unemployment. Even educated people are struggling to find jobs. I am worried about my children and their future.
We don’t venture into oceans when officials warn us about any change in the weather. But the boat owners don’t really care for our lives. They expect us to go into the water even during those times. Thankfully, I can swim really well. I am a big fan of Balayya and I watch all his films. Legend is my favourite film.
Sometimes, I feel that if I get a bag full of money, all of my problems would be solved. This is my wild fantasy. I pray each time I go fishing to find some treasure.”
