“During the Sankranthi festival, we travel all around Vijayawada with our festooned bull walking door to door, seeking alms from households. We are the prime attraction of the festival as we blow the trumpet to entertain the people, especially kids. Some people come out of their houses, to offer food and take blessings from our holy cattle and some shoo us away.
Year after year, there is a gradual disappearance of these traditions and our life is proving to be an uphill task. We have to spend a lot on maintaining our cattle, even when there is a little hope of earning enough for survival.
In the end, we somehow run the show…we put up a happy face with music and dance, while all the time trying to hide our sorrow behind it.”
