“It’s more than 20 years now since I started this trolley. After basic education and working on a ship for a brief while, I joined a cool drinks and eatables shop. There I learned to make several stuffed snacks and started this stall of my own. Sundays and college holidays are good for my business…rest of the days, just passable…and absolutely nothing during bad weather or rains. Overall, I barely manage my survival and my marriage plans are on hold right now, as I still need to get my sister married.
When you are poor, the company of others makes you feel rich. This is one of the main reasons I sell here on the beach. I could have taken this trolley anywhere else in the city but I like the good camaraderie we share amongst vendors. We even got together as a trade union.
After staying so long in this business, I assume that people like everything on my menu. But if you ask me, my recommendation would be my spicy ‘cut-Mirchi’, followed by sweet coconut water in that stall a few feet away.”
